Because they don't
Often the second one is the dodgy one (Indiana Jones Trilogy)
Its more the law of diminishing returns though. Film in sets of three aren't usually preconceived trilogies. Because it worked the first time they try to remake it over and over

No, look at the Lord Of The Rings and The matrix, they were fab all the way through!
