Well the Chronicles of Riddick didn't do as well as they wanted to, partially because Pitch Black was kind of obscure and not as memorable as perhaps the writer/director David Twohy had thought. But, there is going to be a third one but I doubt it's started production yet. I know that David Twohy is very likely to be working on the script as we speak, but since most people probably aren't gagging for it I would expect a release in about 2-5 years or so. Sad, I know. I totally love Riddick stuff. They really leave you hanging, huh!
And here's some hard evidence:
';Twohy, who adapted and directed Pitch Black says The Chronicles of Riddick is his most ambitious project to date. He turned down the script originally offered by the studio, telling them that it had to be a much more monumental story, and producing an idea for a trilogy of films. Universal Pictures, keen to replicate the success of the Lord of the Rings films, agreed to Twohy's request and approved a $105 million budget for Riddick.
If the first one is successful, Twohy plans to film two more sequels back-to-back.
November 12, 2004 - The Chronicles of Riddick, starring Vin Diesel, was always planned out as a trilogy of epic films. Unfortunately, the first installment disappointed many sci-fi fans and fell flat at the box office, earning considerably less than the costs involved in making the effects-rich picture.
In spite of the poor returns, Chronicles Part II remains a possibility. Director David Twohy told Now Playing Magazine that the future of the series depends on how well the DVD sells in the next few weeks.
';[Sequels are] still a possibility, but many eyes are watching this DVD release very closely,'; said Twohy. ';Remember that we were saying all along that we knew where the story goes from this point forward, but we hopefully didn't have so much hubris to say that we were definitely making a trilogy out of this. What we were saying was, 'We know what the macro arc is,' and if we were fortunate enough to be successful in this one we knew where we would pick up in the next one. We had it in our minds and there are certain setups in The Chronicles of Riddick for future films, including the Shirah character who now appears in the [director's cut DVD], a character who did not make it into the theatrical version at all.';
The continuation of The Chronicles of Riddick would involve fleshing out the Necromonger mythology and exploring the Underverse, a parallel plane of existence where the Necromonger dead reside.';
I'm sure I over-answered this question, but hey, maybe you're as curious about this as me.Wasnt the chronicles of riddick supposed to be a trilogy?
the second instalment to the Riddick trilogy is ''chronicles of Riddick DARK FURY'; which obviously fell between ''Pitch Black'; and the actual titled ';Chronicles of Riddick'; and is only 35 minutes long but they are considering it as part of the trilogy Report Abuse
that's what I thought!
